Pagoda in Evening Rain
Shiro Kasamatsu (Japanese, 1898–1992)
- DESCRIPTION
- Pagoda in Evening Rain is widely regarded as one of his masterworks. The five-storey Yanaka Pagoda in Tokyo dominates the composition, dark and monumental against a rain-soaked blue sky. Below, a lone figure in kimono shelters beneath a brilliant red umbrella, the single point of warm colour in an otherwise cool and atmospheric scene.
