Midnight Constellation

Studio Glass, European tradition
DESCRIPTION
The glassblower's technique of rolling a hot gather across a marver scattered with chips of coloured glass creates the dense, painterly surface seen here. Deep navy and indigo chips are embedded into the clear body, distributing themselves with the controlled randomness of a constellation chart. A wide-shouldered, narrow-footed body with a dramatically asymmetric pulled lip.

4.25" Diam x 11"H (approx)
MEDIUM
Hand-blown clear glass with embedded navy and indigo spatter inclusions
EDITION

PROVENANCE
Spatter glass in the European studio tradition descends from the Czechoslovak glass industry's post-war innovation period, when designers were encouraged to explore decorative surface treatments as nationally significant export objects.
